It's almost like he knew. While Bruce Willis watched his upcoming project, Pinkville, enter the shitter over the weekend, it would seem that he already had a backup plan in mind. Willis has been picked up by Disney to star in The Surrogates.
Bruce Willis for The Surrogates
Just as United Artists yanks the chain on Pinkville, Willis is already onboard for The Surrogates, a sci fi thriller based on the graphic novel from Top Shelf Comix.
Directed by Jonathan Mostow off a script by scribes Michael Ferris and John Brancato, The Surrogates is set in the near future, where humans live in isolation and interact vicariously through surrogate robots who are better-looking versions of themselves. Willis plays a cop who, through his surrogate, investigates the murders of others’ surrogates. The cop is forced to venture from his own home for the first time in years and unravels a conspiracy.
Though an insane notion -- does anybody think this sounds somewhat like Avatar? -- the film does sound pretty badass; and there's no one better for a part such as this than Willis.
It looks like the WGA Strike will not be slowing this film's production, as filming is expected to begin early 2008. Disney has given Touchstone the responsibility of distribution.
