Oded Fehr as Ardeth Bay
Entertainment Weekly has posted their top 25 Awesome Action Heroes and, though I do agree with most their choices plus their attention to installments, I was slightly jaded by the fact that they'd forget to include Oded Fehr.
Who is that you ask? Well, I'll tell you!
Tribute to Oded Fehr
Oded Fehr has been a refugee (Resident Evil: Extinction), a Gigalo (Deuce Bigalow) and my favorite, Ardeth Bay. While Brendan Fraser's Rick O'Connell gets all the credit for saving the day in each of The Mummy installments, he couldn't had done it without the support of the sand crusader, Ardeth Bay.
Ardeth Bay is a craftsman of the desert, and has no problem switching between blade and gunpowder when necessary. He also has badass face tattoos, a loyal bird and an authoritative accent. Who doesn't like any of these? He is also reasonable. One second he could be tossing dynamite in your direction while, the next, your most able ally. While Rick O'Connell dealt with the Scorpion King, Ardeth Bay was outside facing minions of the underworld (never mind scorching sun) to keep evil at bay.
Respectable!
He always had a thing for that bird.
A god among us
Though Oded Fehr's filmography still falls short of impressive, we can only hope for more projects from the actor.
So, who did make it onto the 25 Awesome Action Heroes list? You know, the usual: Bruce Willis (Die Hard) and Sigourney Weaver (Aliens). They also gave one to Tom Cruise for his Ethan Hunt in M:i:III. Though Paramount felt that the film was the lesser of the trilogy (at least earnings wise), it is impossible to deny Cruise's strong character in the installment.
Maybe next time we can give some love to Oded Fehr's Ardeth Bay. As a consolation we'd take Rick O'Connell (with mention of Ardeth Bay, of course).
