Julian McMahon on Nip/Tuck Season Five

Christian Troy has always had the most fascinating sex life. It's not just all the hot babes he bangs. It's the way he does it, from picking up a chick at a sex addicts meeting to making an ugly girl put a bag over her head. Now that he's coming to Hollywood, things might not be so easy for Christian.
Julian McMahon Talks Nip/Tuck's Troy
"Christian always thinks that he can dominate kind of any circumstance and situation that he's in," said actor Julian McMahon. "In Miami, I feel like he did that to a certain extent but when he gets to L.A., it feels like he's kind of running amongst a bunch of people who are better at doing what he's doing than he is himself. I know there's some stuff coming up where he's kind of basically pushed to the wall of extremes, as far as he is concerned, in his kind of need to dominate and feel like he can manipulate any circumstance and situation. In L.A., everybody is just as charming, if not more so, better looking. Everything that he kind of holds onto, there's better here. That's kind of his challenge."
Don't worry, Christian can still persevere when he's the underdog. "I think that all the characters have always had a fighting spirit inside of them. I think obviously Christian's been a part of that. I think that yeah, he'll persevere. There are some fantastic places that we go to eventually and there are some things that he does that go way beyond anything I feel like he's done on the show so far."
In Miami, Christian could coast on looks. Now in the Mecca of perfection, he's judged on his medical merits. "Just because he's always been under the medical shadow, he's always been not as good a doctor, not as particular with that kind of stuff, when he comes to L.A., Sean is kind of the more attractive doctor, which ahs always been Christian's kind of thing. It's Christian saying, 'I'm the charming, good looking doctor and you're the mediocre talent.' That's what we have. All that gets taken away from Christian and he has it all."
McMahon is ready for more kinky sex. The show's first four years have not given him his fill. "I don't think the show is kinky enough, so I'm kind of trying to push for that kind of stuff consistently. For example, I did this thing yesterday that was scripted to do in my bathing suit, pushups in the bathroom, and then I answer a phone call. I decided to do them on the deck naked. I just want to push things further. I feel like when we started on the show, we were pretty explicit and out there. It maintained that to a certain extent but now I feel like we have to reinvigorate that a little bit. I feel like the shock and awe we came out with initially is we've kind of done it now. Now you need to see a little bit more stuff."
If you think nip/tuck is outrageous, get a load of the stuff that doesn't make the cut. "I just want to do weird things. Yesterday, for some reason I was watching Silence of the Lambs, a thing on the director, Jonathan Demme. They had that shot in Silence of the Lambs when he cut the guy's face off and hung him up. I went to him and said, 'Do you think we could have sex like that? Could he be hung up like that?' We had these two Marilyn Monroe impersonators there and I thought it would just be this hysterical and really kind of ridiculous look. He said no."
nip/tuck returns to FX in October.
