The cast of Speed Racer continues to grow. After making a couple brief appearances in NBC's Heroes, Richard Roundtree has been picked up by Warner Bros. to join the Wachowski Brothers' live-action adaptation.
Richard Roundtree for Speed Racer
Speed Racer centers on young race car driver Speed (Emile Hirsch) and his quest for glory in his thundering, gadget-laden Mach 5. Roundtree will play Ben Burns, a racer-turned-commentator who is an icon to the fans and a hero to Speed.
Roundtree joins a cast that includes Matthew Fox, Christina Ricci, Susan Sarandon and John Goodman. Shooting is already under way in Berlin.
Though younger generations have only become aware of Roundtree thanks to Heroes, the actor is best known for playing the iconic character Shaft.
Once Speed Racer wraps, Roundtree will join Vivica A. Fox in the play Whatever She Wants.
Stay tuned for updates.
