All Michael Bay movies have hot girls in them, but rarely are they under 20. Since Transformers is more of a teen-interest movie than most of Bay's ouvre, and the lead is Shia LaBeouf, the female lead could be a the feminine equivalent. Megan Fox is Bay's discovery. For her first blockbuster, it was easy for the newcomer to play the school beauty.
Megan Fox on Transformers
"I think the writers wrote her as a very respectable female character," said Fox. "She was strong and she was different. And she was relatable and all of these things so it wasn’t really up to me. The writers did a great job."
And since it's Michael Bay, Fox still got the glowing Liv Tyler shot in the middle of chaotic action. "I didn’t realize what was happening while we were making it. I just remember Mike was really excited while he was filming it. But I mean I see why. It’s beautiful."
Bay is known for his intensity, but it was a good environment for Fox's first big movie. "I mean, he pushed me but he had to, not in a negative way. To push me to be tougher to maybe do some of that action that maybe I wasn’t prepared to do. I needed that."
To be "the girl" in the summer's biggest movie wasn't a gift handed to Fox. She worked for the part. "It was long for me. I had like eight different meetings over the span of maybe a month, a month and a half. And there’s a lot of other people you have to convince as well. It’s not just those two [Bay and Spielberg]. It’s like a mass amount of people who have to believe in you. Particularly for me, because I’m kind of coming out of nowhere. I’m completely unknown so it’s very intimidating. But then he brought me in for chemistry reasons with Shia and I really like Shia and got along with Shia. I think that helped me."
Before this, Fox was just another kid. "I was in high school. I was going to school and I wasn’t really doing anything that had much to do with acting. But I had known since I was three that I wanted to be an actress and I wanted to be out here. I stopped paying attention in school because I was bored. I couldn’t concentrate because I knew wanted to be elsewhere so I was failing. My mom was like, ‘Look, you’re going to get flunked out so let’s just test you in a correspondence school and see what happens.’ I passed immediately and I got to move out here. I was in Florida."
Sure, everyone wants to be an actor, but some people are made for it. "I just feel like I’m destined to be a part of this for some reason. Like I can’t tell you what the reason is now but I just feel like in this business you can be beneficial to so many people, such a mass amount of people. I feel that’s something I want to be able to accomplish."
