Maybe it’s the mood you have to be in but I feel like horror movies these days always leave a bit to desire. But Dead Silence did something right, it made me jump a few times. No, it’s not the wittiest horror movie you’ve ever seen and no it’s not the scariest but it had enough to creep you out and make you laugh (with the movie, not at the movie). So for that I commend it.
DVD Review: Dead Silence
The story revolves around the dummy of a ventriloquist that avenges the murder of its “master”, Mary Shaw. But not only is the dummy wreaking havoc but the never seemingly dead body of Mary Shaw likes to rip the tongues out of those people who scream when they see her. Nice.
This movie gives you plenty of opportunities to yell at the inanities of its characters and the twist at the end is the most interesting/silly/a bit over reaching but what can you do? Ever since Band of Brothers I’ve been a big fan of Donnie Wahlberg so I give him the benefit of the doubt. Amber Valletta is definitely nice to look at and Ryan Kwanten does a decent job playing the lead. Director, James Wan (Saw) knows what he’s doing behind the lens as he gives us a smoky tone and enough tension to up the heart rate.
After you’ve laughed at the absurdity of the ending you’ll forget about that fact and realize that you enjoyed the film.
