Peter Jackson's adaptation of The Lovely Bones is beginning to pick up steam as Paramount/DreamWorks has just cast the always-beautiful Rachel Weisz to star.
Rachel Weisz for The Lovely Bones
Based on Alice Sebold's bestselling tome, The Lovely Bones tells the story of a 14-year-old who has been raped and killed and now watches over her family and killer. Rachel Weisz will play mother to the deceased daughter.
Jackson wrote the script with his Lord of the Rings scripting partners Philippa Boyens and Fran Walsh.
DreamWorks/Paramount acquired the property (and Jackson) after an aggressive bidding war against Universal, Warner Bros., and Sony.
Weisz became available for The Lovely Bones after she declined to reprise her role in a third installment of The Mummy for Universal. We contacted Universal for comment and all they had to say was, "Bitch!"
Not really, but I'm sure some execs were thinking it.
