An influx of email began to arrive today claiming that Transformers has received an R-rating from the MPAA. Though it seemed a bit too soon for the MPAA to get a say, Shia LaBoeuf confirms that "R" was at least a possibility.

Transformers Rated "R"?

It is hard to say whether it was Optimus Prime's F-bombs or the nipple slip by Megan Fox, but the MPAA attempted to stamp Transformers with the big "R" rating. During a recent interview with IESB, Shia LaBoeuf confirmed that the MPAA had seen a copy of the movie and felt it was a little too intense.

Sorry folks, I was kidding on the nipple slip and the F-bombs. But, if it were to get a "R" rating, why not?

He says that a cut of the film went to the MPAA and came back with big rated R attached. Not because of sex or language, but because of intense action and violence (awesome!). Shia says Spielberg came to the rescue and went in to argue his point and got it knocked down to a PG-13.

Though PG-13 will obviously earn Transformers more coin at the box office, "R" would have shown that Spielberg and Bay are not playing around.

Transformers opens on July 4th, 2007.
