In the third season of 24, Jack Bauer got his most powerful ally. Chloe started off as a problematic moody desk worker at CTU, but quickly became the key to Jack's most dangerous missions. But with all her techno savvy, how could she let the Chinese get to him at the end of season five?
Interview: Mary Lynn Rajskub on Being Chloe in 24
"Well, you know, things happened to her," said Rajskub. "I blame it on Miles. I don't think it’s very fair when he stole the sound thing at the last second. But I’m ready to go hand to hand combat with every Chinese person if I have to."
As 24 starts a new day, some time after the last, expect to learn even more about Chloe. "That’s something that I’m really excited about in a show that’s a concept show that’s only one day like that, I’ve had the most character development that I’ve had in any other job, so I like seeing more and more of Chloe’s personal life so I’m happy about that."
Last year introduced Chloe getting out of bed with a lover. "Yeah. More of that, right? The woman Chloe. Let’s see what she’s all about. I think she’s got to let her power out and have more responsibility, maybe wear some red lipstick."
In person, Rajskub is funny and warm, not short and cold like Chloe. So where did the attitude come from? "It just comes from somewhere deep inside of me. I don't know. It was a weird chemistry thing because I had never really done a drama before, so it was just something about coming on a set like that and it just sort of brought out these quirks in me that were appropriate to the character. I can’t really explain it. I didn’t really plan for it and I know it definitely stuck out at first and she still sticks out a little bit. I think she’s so smart."
So is Rajskub, but not with all the computer stuff. "Well, I’m a genius in other ways. I’m not technical at all. I actually honest to god, I don’t watch TV because I can’t turn my TV on. That’s how embarrassing it is."
Whether or not Chloe will see more field work has yet to be determined. "I don’t know anything. I don’t know a darn thing. But I do know that I’m insisting on carrying a machete at all times when I’m in CTU so I can be ready."
