Scott Pilgrim vs. The World
Allison Pill says the line from Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World that you’ll be repeating afterwards. As the drummer in Pilgrim’s band, she shouts, “We are Sex Bob-omb!” and counts down to the song. Pill went to band camp to learn the drums.

“There was and our band camp leader was a man named Chris Murphy who is part of the band Sloan which I grew up listening to,” Pill said. “It’s one of my favorite bands, so it was really cool. I’d always been interested in being a drummer. I just never thought I could be just due to complete lack of coordination. Apparently it’s not complete. There is a weird little thing in my brain that allows me to be able to do different things with my feet and hands.”
I know how tough it is. I can’t even do Rock Band when they have the foot pedal and a drum pad at the same time. “That was part of my worry because I used to play Rock Band with some friends and they would try to make me play the drums. They really wanted to play the guitar and bass and I’d be like, ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah, I can manage this.’ Within 30 seconds we’d be booed off the stage. It was terrible.”
Playing the drums for real was good for letting out rage. “The screaming is like whatever but the drums are really good for getting out aggression.”
Drummer Kim Pine is a favorite character from the Bryan Lee O’Malley comic, and she gets a lot of screen time in the movie. “First off, Kim’s the coolest character in the books. That’s A. Then it’s a tricky thing to try and translate six books into one movie so there’s not a lot of chance for Kim’s backstory. When you have a single three second shot to try and get everything through, it’s like okay, I’m going to try and keep this simple and not try and do too many things.”
Scott Pilgrim vs The World opens to theaters on August 13th.
