Salma Hayek on Grown Ups

Salma Hayek may seem like an unusual choice for an Adam Sandler movie. She’s actually been trying to find a project with him for a long time. Grown Ups casts her as his wife on a reunion with his old school friends.

Salma Hayek Talks Grown Ups

“I said yes to this movie, at the beginning, just because I’m an Adam Sandler fan and I really liked the movie,” Hayek said. “Of course now, the main focus of my life is my family. It does change things and the choices you make. You want the movies that your children can watch and also that your children can have fun in enjoying the experience of shooting it. It doesn’t get better than this movie for that. I love the movie. I’m proud of it. I can’t wait for Valentina to see it.”

Valentina actually did see part of it. She was there when Mommy was filming. “We all brought the children to the set. Adam makes it like the dream environment to bring children. They are so highly entertaining it’s like you’re nervous when you get back home how you’re going to entertain your child because they have all kinds of toys and things there for them to play. Everybody had children around the same age. So, she loved coming to work everyday with me.”

In the film, Hayek and Sandler’s characters have children too. She hopes the motherhood aspect will attract a larger audience to the film. “I think that out of Adam’s movies, he’s done a large variety of films, but I think women are going to love this one because they’re going to identify with us and our conflicts in our own marriages and our relationship with our children and even the grandmothers and the kids and the guys. So, I really think that it was important that we all had similar experience as actors because it’s more that we’re bringing to the table.”

We’ll see how many moms can relate to Hayek’s fabulous body in a bathing suit scene. At least you can take comfort in knowing that even Hayek is self-conscious. “Well, I’ll tell you, having to wear a bathing suit in front of the camera and thousands of extras definitely motivates you to workout a little bit. I think the outfits that make you feel good is the outfits that fit you and don’t make you feel like you have to suck in your gut or you cannot move in this direction. Wearing something comfortable always makes you feel comfortable.”

Grown Ups is out in theaters now.
