Dakota Fanning joined the Twilight family in New Moon as the Volturi Jane. Jane appears again in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, and it’s actually Fanning’s first sequel ever.

Dakota Fanning Sequels Out to The Twilight Saga: Eclipse

“This is the first time I’ve ever gotten to play the same character in a different film,” she said. “It was really great. I love playing this character, it’s such a fun character to get to play and being a part of all that is Twilight is such an honor and still kind of surreal for me. I feel so lucky to be a part of it.”

Jane is a great release for Fanning, a total performance. “She’s obviously not the nicest person but it’s kind of fascinating to be able to play someone that takes pleasure in hurting people, that’s kind of a weird thing to get to do and obviously something I’ve never done before.”

There’s really only one Jane scene in Eclipse but Fanning made the most of it. “My one scene was really hard. Because I am in such a small part of the film, it kind of adds to, pressure is the wrong word but the only word I can think of right now, just to get that one part right and do the best that you can. In that little moment that you’re in the film, make it the best it can be and the scariest it can be and the coolest it can be.”

Her scene may be the scariest in the whole vampire story, because Jane brings the hammer down. “I felt like I was making a horror film when there was a big fire pit and there were fake burning bodies in there. That was the only time it felt like it was a horror film.”

It is Fanning’s third film with Kristen Stewart. They played bandmates in The Runaways earlier this year. “During the summer when we were doing The Runaways we both had in the back of our minds that she would have to go do Eclipse pretty much right away and I came a month or two later just for a week to do my part. But it was so weird just seeing each other in different costumes and being different people because we got so used to seeing each other as Joan and Cherie and me especially seeing her with the short black hair, and she has green eyes in real life and seeing her with brown eyes and long hair again, it was so weird. Obviously our relationships are very different in The Runaways and in Eclipse. So that was kind of fun but it was really, really weird at first.”

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse will open to theaters on June 30.
