I gave The Lovely Bones a break in theaters. I liked the visuals and was into the spiritual story so I didn’t hate on it. On Blu Ray, the visuals shine for anyone who wants to give Peter Jackson’s movie a chance.
On Blu-Ray: The Lovely Bones
The afterlife scenes are sharp and smooth so all the surreal visuals are in perfect focus. Magical landscapes have pure colors and shiny textures. It’s almost like this is the reality, and the “real world” is unreal.
The real world scenes contrast with some graininess. It’s saturated colors with a harsh light pushing the bright yellow in the Salmon family home and the gritty darkness of Harvey’s dungeon. You’ll see a little digital speckle as some of the darker scenes try to hold together, but it feels like it’s supposed to be set off from the potential peace of Susie’s journey to heaven.
