Anthony Hopkins
With Marvel prepping to begin production on Thor this January, the studio has begun to accelerate their casting efforts. It looks like their shooting for ensemble, as they've recently added Anthony Hopkins.
Anthony Hopkins for Thor
Hopkins has been cast to play Odin, the king of Asgard and the father of Thor and Loki. Chris Hemsworth, who you saw playing Daddy Kirk in Star Trek, is playing Thor, and Tom Hiddelston is set to play his nemesis, Loki.
Natalie Portman is on board to play Thor's love interest, Jane Foster. All we need are a few other big names and we can officially stamp the film's callsheet with "ensemble."
If you never got into Thor, here is some idea of what scribes Mark Protosevich, Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller scripted together:
The Mighty Thor is a powerful but arrogant warrior of Asgard, but after his reckless actions reignite an ancient war, his father banishes him to Earth to live among humans. He learns the meaning of heroism when he stands tall as his arch enemy from home sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.
Kenneth Branagh will direct Thor with a theatrical release set for May 20, 2011.
