Community has become NBC’s new comedy hit. Debuting after The Office, it pokes fun at the gang of students at a community college. Previewing the show at the Paley Center for Media’s fall TV preview, star Joel McHale wouldn’t even hint at what’s coming up on the show.
Joel McHale Talks Community
“I’m not gonna tell you,” McHale said. “You gotta watch the show. I’m not going to tell.”
We do know that episode two introduces the Spanish teacher, Senor Chang. Ken Jeong plays Chang. “Let me just say, when you watch Ken Jeong go, they just let him go. It is stunning. The guy is probably the best improviser I’ve ever seen in my life and he is freakishly funny. It’s like he’s been touched by God or something, he’s so funny. So you’ve got John Oliver in the cast, you’ve got Ken Jeong, Jim Rash, John Michael Higgins and so you’ve got this just crazy, just those four guys are like some sort of superhero, superfriends network. It was amazing.”
Thinking about all the talent supporting him, McHale got nervous. “I feel like it’s ours to screw up.”
At least in his acting foray, he has not run into anyone he’s made fun of on The Soup. “No, I’ve never done that because I’m not going to go on a skanky reality show. No, I’ve not run into one yet.” ”
