Lea Michele plays Glee’s superstar in waiting. Rachel Berry is just obsessed with becoming the best singer possible. It gives Michele some standout moments to shine in the ensemble musical show.
Lea Michele Shows Her Glee
“I think what's so great about Rachel is that she knows what she wants and she knows what she loves,” Michele said. “That's exactly how I was. When I was eight years old, I fell in love with singing, and ever since then it's been my passion. I've been dedicated to it since I was young and Rachel is the exact same way. So in a way I can relate to it, and I also respect and love that about her.”
Glee premiered in May to American Idol’s audience. It’s been buzzing all summer and iTunes has been selling downloads of the glee club rendition of “Don’t Stop Believing.”
“I think we were just so happy at the response that we got, especially how well the songs did on iTunes and stuff like that. I think we were just really happy, but we just finished last week. So we've been in this little Glee bubble of finishing the 13 episodes and working really hard. So we were just really thankful to get to see the reaction especially when we went to Comic-Con. That was so great. We're also just about to go on a 10-city tour and hopefully we'll get to meet people that have seen the pilot and that are excited for the show. We are really excited about that. You're going to have all of us kids on a plane going to tons of cities, all of us together. So it's going to be great. We're going to get to meet people that haven't joined the show so far.”
Rachel is one of the high school outcasts. Fortunately for Michele, her formative years were kinder. “I had a really great high school experience. I tried to dabble in a bunch of different things, and I had lots of different kinds of friends. I worked outside of school. So when I got to school, I wanted to be a normal kid, but I remember it being really great. And I loved Will Schuester on Glee. The character is so great. I didn't have a teacher like that in high school, and so I love walking down the hallways of our set of Glee and remembering what it was like.”
