It should be no surprise that Watchmen looks amazing on Blu Ray. With all the detail pored over every frame, Blu Ray reproduces all of that pristinely. So much so that director Zack Snyder says you can even see his reflection in the opening fight scene with The Comedian.
On Blu-Ray: Watchmen
Mars, the Comedian’s apartment, Dr. Manhattan’s lab, Dr. Manhattan himself, Rorschach’s mask, all the costumes, every detail of every element shows up as created and intended. Every crevice, all the constructed rubble of the environment, was made to be shown in HD.
I’m probably not going to watch the entire Maximum Movie Mode behind the scenes experience, but I like the way it’s done. Snyder’s walk-on segments pop out of the movie unobtrusively, with dual frames behind him demonstrating points. The other segments pop up at points that make sense. I’m not the type to watch these while the movie is going on. I’d just watch standalone extras. But for the audience it’s designed for, the Blu Ray feature is really well designed.
