WoW: Wrath of the Lich King
Back in November of 2008, Blizzard announced that they were looking for both writers and a director for their upcoming live-action adaptation of Warcraft. We haven't heard much since, and I was beginning to think that this could be another Halo scenario. Not so! With Blizzard showing more drive than Microsoft, they've teamed with Legendary Pictures and have since got Sam Raimi onboard to direct.
Sam Raimi Directing Warcraft
Blizzard and Legendary Pictures will co-finance the film with Warner Bros, who will take care of distribution. No real surprise here, as Legendary and WB are hand in hand.
The current plan is to have Sam Raimi supervise the pre-production of Warcraft, with him being scheduled to shoot the pic only after he wraps Spider-Man 4. So, yes, this could be a ways out.
I can't imagine Blizzard being in any sort of rush, as the film should serve as more bonus income than anything. Considering that WoW grosses over $1 billion each year in subscription fees, I think the gaming company is doing just fine at the moment.
"At its core, Warcraft is a fantastic, action-packed story," Raimi said in a statement.
Agreed and, if they can pull this adaptation off, how hard could Halo be?
