An American in Paris
Warner Bros. has outdone themselves with the Blu Ray releases of An American in Paris and Gigi. They’re not wasting the funds they used to purchase MGM’s back catalog.
On Blu-Ray: An American in Paris and Gigi
An American in Paris looks almost like reality except the colors are still Technicolor. So skin tones are more red/gold and you see an extra bright, vibrant view of Paris but all the detail in the background is still there. Where did that come from, shot on full frame old film stock? Old staging and screen makeup can hold up perfectly in the newest high tech format.
Gigi seems a tad more heightened but that may be because of the letterbox presentation. Those old anamorphic lenses may stretch things beyond their normal look. However the detail is still amazing and the vibrant colors are stunning. Now I’m glad I missed all the classics. I’m going to get to see them for the first time better than they ever looked originally.
