American Idol American Idol

America’s Got (T)Allen(t)

Well, Idol faithful, we have a winner. Ryan started out the star-studded evening by saying, these two lives have been changed forever, but only one can win. There were almost 100 million votes cast. Seacrest then proceeded to introduce the judges accompanied with sound bites. Randy was “for me, for you”; Kara uttered “honey or sweetie” more than any grandmother; Paula’s ‘large vocabulary” was featured and Simon asked “what, what did you say?”

Ryan brought out our finalists, Adam Lambert and Kris Allen. They were shown gatherings in their hometowns who were cheering them on.

American Idol: Finale

The Top 13 performed “So What?” The singing with choreography must be so hard for Scott, although the other idols helped him move around the stage.

David Cook sang “Permanent”, dedicated to his late brother Adam. The iTunes download proceeds will benefit ABC Squared to fight cancer. It was a brilliant performance and what a class act.

Next up to fill time and for comic relief – The Golden Idol Awards. The first award was for Outstanding Male. Who else could have won, but Nick Mitchell (Norman Gentle)? He did his shtick. Ryan donned Norman’s glasses and headband after his performance – ew.

Lil Rounds and Queen Latifah belted “Cue the Rain”. Bodysuits belong on ballerinas – enough said.

Anoop Desai and Alexis Grace joined Jason Mraz for “I’m Yours”. The rest of the Top 13 jumped in.

Roll Kris Allen’s ‘Journey on Idol’.

The next duet was Kris Allen with Keith Urban presenting “Kiss a Girl”. This was very well done and showed (Danny) how a duet should be.

The Top 13 girls gave us “Glamorous”, and then together with Fergie sang “Big Girls Don’t Cry”. Next came all of Black Eyed Peas busting “Boom, Boom, Pow”. AI has come a long way since Kelly vs. Justin.

The Golden Idol for Best Attitude was presented to Katrina Darrell (Bikini Girl). Ryan did his same lame “was going to ask you what’s new but… “, referring to her new “attributes” As she sang “Vision of Love” out came Kara to “school” her. Not only did Kara outsing her, but opened her dress to reveal a smoking hot bikini body. Great T.V.

Allison Iraheta and Cyndi Lauper rocked a duet of “Time After Time”.

Danny Gokey started with “Hello”, and then was joined by Lionel Richie which concluded with “All Night Long”.

Roll Adam’s Idol Journey.

Adam Lambert sang “Beth” and shared the stage with Kiss for “Detroit Rock City” and “Rock and Roll all Night”. What a great front man Adam would be. The Kiss dudes have lost a few steps in the singing department.

Matt Giraud connected with Carlos Santana for “Black Magic Woman”. The Top 13 then jumped in for “Smooth”.

The Ford Music Video of “I Will Remember You” featured clips from previous videos.

The reigning American Idol (at least for a few more minutes), David Cook, presented Adam and Kris with 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrids.

Steve Martin collaborated with Megan Joy and Michael Sarver on “Pretty Flowers”. The bluegrass ditty was penned by Martin.

The Top 13 guys began “Do You Think I’m Sexy?” and no surprise out came Rod Stewart. Stewart followed with “Maggie May”.

The next Golden Idol was presented for Outstanding Female. This led to Tatiana Del Toro. I think we finally heard “Saving all my Love for You” from her for the last time as she was escorted out by security.

Kris and Adam started “We are the Champions” and were joined by Queen. Wow, what an Idol moment!

Simon gave his closing comment – “Both are brilliant, nice people and should be proud of what was achieved last night”.

Ryan said for the final time “Dim the lights” – the winner of American Idol 2009 is… Kris Allen. Kris and Adam shared a sincere hug. Kris was shocked and said Adam deserved to win. So humble. His performance of “No Boundaries” surpassed Tuesday.

I can imagine every agent in Hollywood dialing the Idol offices today and inquiring what it would take to get their clients on next year’s finale. What a showcase!

We have concluded another Season of AI. Are you delighted or disappointed? Through all of the angst and controversy we still love it. The unpredictability is part of why we watch. Now we will miss it - until we will reconvene for American Idol Season 9 on Fox.
