American Idol American Idol
Our Top 3 sang 2 songs tonight. The first was judges’ choice; while the second was the choice of the contestants. (What – no pick from Clive Davis? – Why only two songs this season?)

Ryan reported tonight was the 300th episode of American Idol.

American Idol: Top 3

Judges’ Choice Round –

Danny Gokey – Paula’s choice – “Dance Little Sister” by Terrence Trent D’Arby – the growling karaoke version, added his own do do do, what’s with the unlaced boots, bad dancing – Randy said let the games begin, lots of energy, in hoarse tone, dope for me; Kara said keeps him in his money spot with vocals, great singer but will I remember that performance tomorrow (finally someone is listening), gyrating dancing; Paula said I’m a choreographer and thought he did really good, magic part of your voice stood out; Simon said it is a singing show not a dancing show, but the dancing seemed desperate, should have done without the saxophone, vocally very good, wrong song.

Kris Allen – Randy and Kara’s choice – “Apologize” by OneRepublic – on piano, spot on vocal, good end – Randy said saw kind of artist you could be, nice baby nice; Kara said competent performance, should have performed it on acoustic guitar, needed to hit it out of the park, make it your own; Paula said in right place for your voice, bum note that was loud, I’m so proud of you; Simon said cop out Kara you can’t choose song for him then blame him for it, should have done arrangement yourselves (fight ensued and ended with Kara’s hand over Simon’s mouth – there will be hell to pay).

Adam Lambert – Simon’s choice (what a surprise) – “One” by U2 (Simon personally got permission from Bono to use the song) – blue lighting, no eye make-up, beautiful beginning, chorus a little out there, he can sing – Randy said dude definitely still in the zone, unbelievable vocals, a little off melody; Kara said strategist, change up melodies and make it unbelievable, your own version; Paula said my life miserable sitting next to Simon gloating, ‘one’ brilliant song, ‘one’ superb performance, ‘one’ American Idol that I’m staring at right now (aren’t we clever?); Simon said I am a little bit biased but brilliant song choice, brilliant performance, if you’re not in the finals next week it will be one of the biggest upsets.

Judges’ Choice Results: 1. Adam 2. Kris 3. Danny

Ryan told us in the past 2 years, Idol Gives Back has donated $140 million both in the United States and around the world. This was followed by a video of Carrie Underwood visiting Angola and giving out malaria nets.

Contestants’ Choice Round –

Danny Gokey – “You Are So Beautiful”, by Joe Cocker – reference to wife?, in beginning straining to keep on pitch, end better – Randy said amazing song, by the late great Billy Preston, what I love about you is what you just did, you are here because you can really really really really sing, mad vocals; Kara said everything you didn’t do in the first performance you just did, stunning, amazing; Paula said left all of us breathless, do magic changing cords and structure infusing gospel and R&B, nailed it, beautiful performance; Simon said love the song, didn’t need re-arranging, vocal master class (Were they hearing what the rest of us were hearing?).

Kris Allen – “Heartless” by Kanye West – guitar, mesmerizing, original, ridiculous vocal, goose bump moment – Randy said toughest voting night, liked it better than the original, in it to win it; Kara said bold, brave, fearless, kudos, tone pitch and phrasing perfect, 100 %, amazing, loved it; Paula said bravest because sang song about Simon (I am so tired of this childishness, there just isn’t time for it.), keeps you relevant, commend you, bravo; Simon said after lame first song choice had written you out of competition, that has changed after that performance.

Adam Lambert – “Cryin’” by Aerosmith – return of eye make-up, too much background singers, showed range, ending good, but didn’t love it – Randy said dawg one of the best we’ve ever had on this stage, you should be a rock star; Kara said how do you hit those notes and talk the next day?, see you at the finals (just wanted to get it in before Paula huh Kara); Paula said set the bar so high, we’ll be seeing you next week and many years after that; Simon said easy to assume you will be here but people should vote for you based on talent (translation – make sure you vote for him enough so we don’t look like fools because he did not make it to the finals).

Contestants’ Choice Round –

1. Kris 2. Adam 3. Danny

Tonight’s Overall Results –

1. Kris 2. Adam 3.
