Guitar Hero World Tour Guitar Hero: World Tour

I’ve had time this weekend to update my Guitar Hero: World Tour song catalog and play a setlist. Here are some thoughts on the recent additions by Bruce Springsteen, Queen, Bob Segar and a redux of the James Bond theme. I play guitar on Hard.

Review: Guitar Hero World Tour DLC

The classic rock is just beautiful. “Born to Run” and “We Are the Champions” give you a bunch of extended sustains that really test your ability to pat your head and rub your stomach at the same time. They mimic the tracks well so you feel like you could be Brian May, or whoever’s in the E Street Band. I don’t know music.

“Fat Bottom Girls” and “Old Time Rock n’ Roll” are more about chord patterns, hitting the notes at the right time,a la old school Guitar Hero tracks. “Old Time” is really simple. I five starred it right away, but it’s cute how at the beginning, the singer does the Tom Cruise slide from Risky Business.

My big disappointment was the James Bond theme. While it’s fun to play those trademark note patterns, the cover is awful. They’ve added ridiculous hammer ons just to make it complicated, but that’s not the James Bond theme. They should have just gotten one of the masters from one of the later movies, if the original isn’t available. Even David Arnold’s cover should sound like the actual theme.
