I was so saddened by the events of Wild Card night, I could not write about it until now. You cannot convince me that the judges did not have the picks predetermined. To begin, there were the ‘omissions’ of contestants not even brought into the Wild Card competition. (See American Idol Top 12 #3). Then the best performances of the night were not rewarded with a spot to move on. I must get past this.

American Idol: Season 8 Wild Card

On to the performances –

Jesse’s rendition of “Tell Me Something Good” – bluesy, showed some versatility.

Matt sang “Who’s Lovin’ You” – one of his better performances.

Megan gave us “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree” – she completely changed her look, singing was ok, but who can stand to watch her perform.

Von chose poorly with “Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word” – not good.

Jasmine’s syrupy “Reflection” - made it even more obvious, the judges wanted her to move on before the actual performances.

Ricky belted “Superstition” - even though this was not his best effort, it was, in my opinion, good enough to move forward.

Tatiana - once again sang “Saving all my Love for You” despite some rough spots, she is a good little singer, but there is just too much “other stuff” that comes with her, even though she should not have been there tonight I did not like the way she was treated (Ryan wipe that smirk off your face).

Anoop - finished the evening with “My Prerogative”, such an appealing performer, chicks dig him.

The judges announced, Jasmine and Megan would be moving on (Simon was brutal and seemed to enjoy giving Tatiana the ax). Matt and Anoop were the last two left standing and with only one spot left, it would mean one favorite would be going. The final spot is awarded to Matt then Simon said for the first time ever, the judges feel there should be a Top 13 and Anoop is saved.

I will miss some of the contestants that should truly have made it through. But, I know we will forget about the heartbreak and manipulation as the real competition begins. Finally, we will be moving on to the good stuff – the reason we love AI. American Idol Season 8 Top 13 begins – Performances Tuesday night with results Wednesday night on Fox.
