It's funny that this announcement would come now -- yes, I know it's the end of the year -- as I've recently been saying that some day Justin Timberlake will be due the title of Entertainer of the Year. His collection of stints on SNL should alone push the singer-actor to the top. While that isn't the case for 2008, I am happy with the conclusion that Associate Press came to.
Tina Fey Entertainer of the Year (According to AP)
Robert Downey Jr. and Heath Ledger came in as runner-up and third-place respectively, while Tina Fey took the top spot for Entertainer of the Year. She might not have been Iron Man or the Joker, but Fey did impress viewers with her impression of Gov. Sarah Palin on Saturday Night Live while writing impressive screenplays/skits.
"Tina Fey is such an obvious choice," said Sharon Eberson, entertainment editor of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "She gave us funny when we really needed it and, in a year when women in politics were making huge strides, Fey stood out in the world of entertainment."
How do you become Entertainer of the Year? Well, have a look at Fey's 2008 resume:
• Starred in Baby Mama
• She won three Emmys for 30 Rock (She produces, stars and writes for the show)
• She perfectly impersonated Palin in five episodes of SNL
"She simultaneously entertained us with her wit and put a mirror up to the nation during the election and made us think about what was going on," said Scott Shive, assistant features editor at the Lexington Herald-Leader. "She is the epitome of the smart kid coming out on top for once."
