The Dark Knight
Anyone who saw the six minutes of Imax footage previewed on the Batman Begins Blu Ray knows how awesome The Dark Knight can look. Now all the film’s Imax scenes come home and they are every bit as glorious as the bank robbery scene I’ve been playing as my default Blu Ray demo.
Blu-ray Review: The Dark Knight
The thing about the Imax scenes is they just look real. They are so clear that it looks like you can reach in and touch things. The colors aren’t surreal Blu Ray colors so it looks like the real world. The smaller screen doesn’t hurt. If anything, it looks more real because the scale isn’t outrageous.
Again, by contrast, the actual movie scenes don’t look as good. They are still awesome Blu Ray full of detail and color. It’s just you go from the exquisitely perfect Imax to the just normally perfect movie and you can tell something’s off. If it were just movie only, the crisp dark lines and grit of battle wounded heroes and villains would be spectacular. It’s just you cut to a full HDTV screen version of it and that becomes the ultimate high standard.
