Justin Timberlake is a valuable commodity, so when he's in a fight scene in a movie, there must be major insurance restrictions. Romany Malco plays a rival character in The Love Guru, and they are hockey players, so a fight on the ice became intense.

"He was down for anything," said Malco. "I mean, that dude, yo, he was really that character. That's all I'm gonna say. He was really that guy and he really wanted to go at it and we really went at it and the dude was dope. He was funny. I know you're supposed to say that because you're working together, but don't get me wrong. I love trashing people because I think it does just as good for press. Justin was really committed and really funny. There was no insurance needed. We went at it like real brawlers."
As the Toronto Maple Leafs' star player, Romany Malco had to learn how to play ice hockey from scratch. "Before I got there, I spent about five weeks on the ice, six hours a day, six days a week and on day seven which is Sunday, I would play pickup games. Then I would train and do the pickup games. When I got there, they wouldn't let me skate that much when I got there. They were afraid that I got injured. I only got to skate for about four hours a day, for like the first month. Once they saw that I was cool, then I skated pretty much 12 hours a day until the job was over."

Malco enjoyed the benefits the skating workout provided. "I lost like 13 pounds and I like it because your legs get really thin and everything else just looks really big. Then your booty gets really hard. I got addicted. It was like the instant gratification of improving. You improve every 30 seconds on the ice."
Now hockey is part of his weekly life. "I still play. I play three times a week. I play on Wednesdays. Wednesday night I train really and Tuesdays I train but my fiancé, who I actually met on this job, she and I skate together on Tuesdays. Then on Saturday, I play with the skate club like clockwork."
