There Will Be Blood
I knew There Will Be Blood was going to be a great Blu Ray as soon as I saw it in theaters. It was so visual with all the oil rig scenes that the images would be the total focus.
Blu-Ray Review: There Will be Blood
I wasn't even anticipating all the rocky vistas. The colors are muted but it's all crisp and sharp. Actually, it removes the usual grain in the sky until the color comes back in.
Of course, it's always the little things that impress the most. The grain in the paper ledger is so clear, it almost comes out of nowhere. Yes, paper is the most fantastic Blu Ray shot in There Will Be Blood.
The dark oil pits are still shiny and multi-layered. There is real use of widescreen with depth of field keeping everything sharp. The second half of the film, dwelling in wealth, has more saturated colors.
The church scene that became the highlight reel for every award show montage is extremely bright. I enjoyed the natural look of the earlier scenes the best but the whole film lives up to its possibilities on Blu Ray.
