Terminator
Incoming: This week's first bad idea.
With productin starting today on Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins, Halcyon Co. has decided to shoot for a more kid-friendly, PG-13 rating. Say what again?
Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins PG-13?
Though the Terminator franchise was born on a hard-R rating, those holding the reigns on the upcoming franchise feel like switching it up a bit. Is there any reasoning to this decision? Though it is true that PG-13's generally fare better at the box office, the three films that make up the Terminator franchise have grossed a combined $1.03 billion worldwide. The money is here, even with the expected hard-R rating.
The execs at Halcyon, who obviously have money on the brain, are optimistic that they can still make a gritty film without the R rating. Maybe next they'll switch genres. Comedies usually do well...
"The ratings have changed," said Halcyon co-founder and co-CEO Victor Kubicek, a broker-turned-writer-producer. "The PG-13 has increased in intensity."
Victor can use Live Free or Die Hard as a prime example of what they are trying to do. The first film in the Die Hard franchise to go PG-13, it is also the biggest earner.
