Iron Man
Remember that tentpole trend last year with just about every film not only arriving early, such as a midnight showing, but a few days to a week early? You know how the story goes...
The studio announces that superfans can see the film Thursday @ midnight. Excitement grows so they then push it forward to Wednesday @ midnight. The studio now really wants to impress the moviegoer and pushes it forward a week plus a year. The only way to see it now is to hop into a time machine and warp out of here. Okay, okay, so it doesn't get that extreme, but there were some films coming to theaters last year nearly a week early.
Since
Iron Man is the first up to bat for the summer blockbusters, does Paramount have some crazy early-release scheme in mind?
Iron Man @ Midnight
The short answer is NO. Yes, we will get the usual midnight screenings, but that will be it. You don't need to leave your Wednesday night open anymore; so get out there and meet some ladies. Here was an announcement sent to some unnamed theater:
We have received permission from Paramount to schedule 12:01am IRON MAN shows on Thursday night (5/1)/Friday morning (5/2). Theatres that are required to run the 12:01am show of IRON MAN will have an “X” in the designated slot, as indicated on the attached spreadsheet. Theatres running the 12:01am show on Thursday night/Friday morning should program the midnight show at this time. For locations designated with an “O,” you may schedule the 12:01am show at your discretion.
All available prints must be used for the special 12:01am shows. Please work with your Programmer/Booker to clear space so you are able to begin seating at least one hour in advance. To maximize capacity for IRON MAN please follow these programming instructions:
· IRON MAN should be programmed in your largest auditoriums.
· Interlocks are encouraged as shows sell out.
· Do not wait to make auditoriums available for sale until each screen sells out. We want our guests to have every opportunity to see this film.
Not that I needed to give you proof on the Thursday @ Midnight showings, but there you have it.
Iron Man opens to theaters on May 2nd.
