The evening opened with Ryan in a day old growth of beard sporting a 1960’s style suit and skinny tie. Sort of Miami Vice meets The Beatles. What a fashion plate he has become.
Ryan told us this week netted the highest number of votes so far this season.
In lieu of a medley this week the Top 10 sang “Get Right Back Where We Started From”. How much better was this than The Beatles mix? The choreography was a bit suspect and the chest bump between David Cook and Michael Johns – well what can I say?
We were shown how our idols record their i-tunes, followed by highlight clips of last night’s performances.
American Idol: Top 10 Elimination Round
Same deal as last week some contestants will be sent to the sofa of safety others to the stools of shame.
The contestants were brought out one by one. First was Chikezie. The first up, you think he’s safe - but no - he was immediately sent to the stools. This would be the first surprise of the night. Next out, Brooke White was off to the sofa of safety. Carly would follow her there. While she talked with Ryan, Carly dispelled rumors she is pregnant.
The weekly Ford Music video featured our idols superimposed on jackets, purses, etc. as they sang.
David Archuleta and David Cook were both deemed safe. Syesha Mercado was declared in the bottom three and sent off to the stools of shame to join Chikezie. What! Syesha had her best performance of the competition Wednesday night, as well as one of the top three showings of the night. She did not belong in the bottom three. Michael Johns was up next and ushered to the sofa of safety.
It was time for the cheesy phone call bit. Someone at Idol must really like this. Is there no other way to fill a segment?
Kimberely Locke, the third place finisher of Season 2 performed “Fall” from her second album. She told us she lost 40 pounds and is looking good. Behind Simon in the audience we spotted Danny Noriega and David Hernandez.
Ryan plugged Idol Gives Back on April 9th. They hope to raise more than the $76 million donated last year. Big celebs will participate again this season: Snoop Dogg, Bono, Reese Witherspoon, Brad Pitt, Celine Dion and many more. Worldwide good comes out of our nation’s pop phenomenon.
There are three contestants left, so when Ramiele Malubay came out we knew she would be off to the sofa. I really thought she should be in the bottom three. Kristy Lee Cook and Jason Castro were brought out for the drama of who would be safe and who would be the final member of the stool of shame trio. Kristy Lee Cook was given a pass to safety. Simon called it that her song selection (“God Bless the USA”) would save her. Jason would join Syesha and Chikezie – no real surprise – his performance Tuesday was uninspired.
The bottom three joined Ryan center stage. 21st birthday boy, Jason was the first sent to join the other idol hopefuls. Chikezie would be sent home. He performed “If Only for One Night”. This was not a losing performance.
Join us next week when our Top 9 will be moving one step closer to a spot in the finale. Performances Tuesday – Results Wednesday on Fox.
