The guys brought their best game on Tuesday. Could the girls match their performance of songs from the 1980s?
Here is the rundown from the best to the rest.
American Idol S7 8 Girls Finalist Recap
Carly Smithson – “Drove All Night” – great, clear and beautiful, she’s become one of my two favorite girls – Randy said smashing it every week, dude another great performance – Paula said dependable dog (this is a compliment), totally in your niche – Simon said don’t think you chose the right song, doesn’t give you what you deserve.
Amanda Overmyer – “I Hate Myself for Loving You” – good song choice, most improved performer over last week, great at this style song – Randy said bluesy rocker chick, well done – Paula said you found your niche – Simon said fantastic, nailed it, perfect song for you, one of his favorite girl performances from this part of the competition.
Brooke White – “Love is a Battlefield” – folksy acoustic version, really nice, my other favorite girl – Randy said like it, interesting – Paula said wise choice, pure – Simon said original take on song, great performances 2 weeks running.
Ramiele Malubay – “Against all Odds “ – back in good form, good song choice – Randy said pretty good vocal, find confidence and go for it – Paula said innocent pure voice, deserve to be in the Top 12 – Simon said good, old fashioned and predictable.
Syesha Mercado – “Saving all My Love for You” – big voice, nice version – (comments from the judges very brief, she was the last performer, show must have run long) – Randy said good, Paula said sophisticated – Simon said predictable but good.
Kristy Lee Cook – “Faithfully” – country take on this Journey song, this is the genre for her – Randy said liked it – Paula said could be a country hit for you – Simon said forgettable, at best will come in tenth.
Asia’h Epperson – “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” – song suited her voice, one of her best performances of the competition – Randy said hot, hard to sing Whitney, shows you deserve to be here – Paula said nailed it – Simon said second rate Whitney, couldn’t hit big not at the end.
Kady Malloy – “Who Wants to Live Forever” – horrible song choice, uncomfortable and strained – Randy said interesting song choice, pretty good – Paula said your best performance to date – Simon said better than last week, lack of personality when you sing.
As a side note, at least the judges stopped the irritating arguing. But what is with Paula and Simon hanging all over each other?
The 1980s proved to be a much better decade for the girls than the 1970s last week.
Now we shall see who will make it to “the merge” and be in our Top 12. Results Thursday night on Fox. Next week the real competition begins.
