One week later, we have advanced another decade. The theme for this week is songs of the 1980s. Put on you neon and adjust your shoulder pads.

Letís break down the contestants from the best to the rest.

American Idol S7 8 Men Finalist Recap

David Cook – “Hello” – accompanied himself on guitar for this rock version of the Lionel Richie ballad, outstanding - Randy said great arrangement, brilliant – Paula said fabulous, would be a hit today – Simon said very brave, I loved it, hope you’ll be here next week.

David Archuleta – “Another Day in Paradise” – started out on piano, clear tones, what a performer – Randy said good, nice, couple pitch problems – Paula said you’re perfect for this competition – Simon said wasn’t as good as last week, a little gloomy, will probably be in the final two.

David Hernandez – “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” – well done, nice vocals – Randy said nice song choice, sometimes overshoot notes – Paula said becoming very good performer, some of the best vocals – Simon said not as good as last week, prefer him singing soul songs, secured a spot in the finals.

Jason Castro – “Hallelujah” – sweet, soft, melodic – Randy said give you props, nice, good lookin’ out – Paula said made a difficult song sound effortless – Simon said absolutely brilliant, your strongest performance so far, getting better each week.

Chikezie – “She Fills Me Up” – soulful, good – Randy said interesting song choice, good job – Paula said vocals really good – Simon said ok in bits, cabaret, not a very smart move.

Michael Johns – “Don’t You Forget About Me” – very much like the original, nice – Randy said Aussie boy goes home for the 80’s, loved it dude – Paula said perfect song, strength in low range – Simon said liked it, didn’t love it, a huge talent but haven’t quite connected.

Luke Menard – “Wake Me Up Before You Go Go” – good vocal, dancing, fun performance – Randy said surprising song choice, ‘ahight’ – Paula said love your interpretation – Simon said did not like it, weak, girly, won’t make it to the final twelve.

Danny Noriega – “Tainted Love” – music overpowered vocals, weak performance – Randy said started out rough. Liked the arrangement, come on with the vocals don’t be shy – Paula said bright light in the competition, great vocal – Simon said horrible, hated arrangement, hated everything about it.

We are getting to the part of the competition where I wish they would take the Top 12 – not the top 6 guys and the top 6 girls. I know it is the way the show works, but it does not seem quite fair. On the whole the guys are stronger than the girls this season.

Wednesday night the girls will bring on their song choices from the 1980s. Results Thursday night on Fox.
