Is it time to get geeked over Harry Potter all over again? Those of you who were reading CanMag before the release of both Order to the bookshelves and Goblet to the theatres know that we plan to give extended coverage to all new Potter developments. Such two developments we have coming our way include the seventh book and the fifth movie.
We gave a report earlier today on the film (here) and it looks like we now have some BIG news on the novel.
The grim is back and he is looking at Harry... Again!
Two Die in Seventh Harry Potter
According to AP, Harry Potter author JK Rowling has given her first public announcement about book seven and in it she describes how more characters will meet their doom; or their grim.
Not only does she mention that at least two characters will die but one of them could be Harry himself.
"I have never been tempted to kill him off before the final because I've always planned seven books, and I want to finish on seven books," Rowling said today (Monday).
"I can completely understand, however, the mentality of an author who thinks, `Well, I'm gonna kill them off because that means there can be no non-author-written sequels. So it will end with me, and after I'm dead and gone they won't be able to bring back the character'."
Though JK Rowling hints that one could be Harry, she does not want to give too many details away; especially if she doesn't want to receive early hate mail.
"The last book is not finished. But I'm well into it now. I wrote the final chapter in something like 1990, so I've known exactly how the series is going to end," she said.
"The final chapter is hidden away, although it's now changed very slightly. One character got a reprieve. But I have to say two die that I didn't intend to die," she said. "A price has to be paid. We are dealing with pure evil here. They don't target extras do they? They go for the main characters. Well, I do."
Which character got a 'reprieve'? The early prediction for book seven is that Harry Potter may have to die in order to vanquish Voldemort; I mean, He Who Must Not Be Named. Would these two consumate the two characters being discussed? I can't say for sure, but I feel a new theory coming on!
OK, OK, I will save my theories until after the summer blockbusters close out.
Here is a fun fact: Rowling (realname: Joanne Rowling) is now the richest woman in England. But I'd still take her out to dinner.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix will be released on July 13th, 2007.
