According to Variety, Stuart Beattie will rewrite Universal's movie adaptation of the videogame Spy-Hunter, starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and directed by John Woo.

If you have never heard of Stuart Beattie, the guy actually boasts a pretty impressive resume [short, but impressive]. Of his previous projects he has done screenplays for Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and Collateral. His upcoming projects include Spy-Hunter, Derailed, Truce, and Scarecrow.

Universal is still hoping for a summer 2006 release, which means production would have to begin shortly. The original script for Spy-Hunter was penned by Michael Brandt, Derek Haas, Damian Shannon, Mark Swift [collectively].
