Final Destination 3
The idea of shooting alternate scenes for movies is perfect for DVD, but until they really shoot different scenes, it won’t be an effective gimmick. It’s too bad because it would be really easy in a Final Destination movie to just shoot a take where the victim steps out of the way.
Final Destination 3 DVD Review
You can’t really save anyone in the Final Destination 3 “Ultimate Thrill Ride Edition.” If anything, you just make them die quicker by choosing between two options at appropriate freeze frame moments.
The only big difference is the tanning bed death. Choose 76 instead of 73 to see it. If all seven of the “Choose Their Fate” moments were like that, it would have been awesome. It’s very Final Destinationy to show that no matter what your choice, death still gets them. But just adding one extra gore shot does not justify calling it a special edition.
In the drive-through death you can actually save him, but the roller coaster and subway scenes are no different at all. Why even give us a choice if there’s not even a superficial alternate? Just so we can see her look at the map for a second? Come on.
You should, however, read the fake newspaper in the subway scene because it describes the aftermath of Final Destination 2. It sounds like the best Final Destination death never filmed. The movie still rules but don’t get too excited about alternate scenes.
Stay tuned for updates.
