McClane returns for another Die Hard
It is only slightly depressing to think that there has been a decade-plus hiatus since Die Hard With a Vengeance. It seems like only yesterday when that film entered theatres; hot damn we're getting old! After farting around with another installment for just about that entire time, 20th Century Fox has now written down a date for the next Die Hard installment -- Live Free or Die Hard.
Live Free or Die Hard
According to Variety, 20th Century Fox has put a stamp on the July 4th weekend of 2007 for Live Free or Die Hard. The only problem that Fox might encounter with this date is that it is already taken by Paramount's Transformers. Considering that the Michael Bay film is one of the most anticipated of 2007, Fox may have to later back off the date.
Fox, in revealing the title and confirming Willis' deal, said the release date is particularly appropriate since the storyline is set around July 4. It's not an unfamiliar strategy for the studio, which released Roland Emmerich's Independence Day. Ok, so maybe it will be hard for Fox to pull out of this date. But can two huge films risk opening on the same weekend?
Len Wiseman (Underworld) will direct Live Free from a screenplay by Mark Bomback.
In the pic, an attack on the country's computer infrastructure begins to cripple the nation. But the man behind the attack never expected an old-fashioned cop to mess up his plans.
There are still rumors suggesting that Justin Long will also take a role in Live Free, but so far Willis is the only confirmed casting.
Is it just me or does the title sound like an inspirational bumper sticker?
