Though sites have been created around bashing Daniel Craig as the new bond, for what I have found to be no good reason, it is hard to deny the fact that his grittier approach could boost the franchise. But let's not count our chickens before they hatch shall we; Casino Royale hasn't even given us a feature trailer yet.
Sony, like myself, does not seem to have any doubts on Daniel Craig and has given audiences a chance to see a whopping twenty minutes of him in action.
20 Minute Casino Royale Preview
According to Variety, Sony Pictures helped create the Cinema Expo's most high-profile event by showing off a twenty-minute preview of Casino Royale. Though it is nice to see some of the new action for the latest Bond installment, it has been assumed that Sony is working to persuade audiences that Daniel Craig really is, well, the shit; aka the cat's pajamas.
Rumors began slipping out Thursday that the Bond scenes might screen, but the event was largely a surprise, and Blake said that the studio only got the OK from Bond's producing team two days earlier.
The footage showed off Craig as a grittier Bond, with scenes of more intense, visceral hand-to-hand combat than 007 has tackled in recent pics. One black-and-white scene flashed back to Bond's first ever (brutal and hard-to-pull-off) kill as an agent, as well as his (much more sleek and signature) second assassination.
Just in case you are more of a fan of the ladies, the previewed footage also showed off a new Bond girl -- Caterina Murino. Craig obviously gets a little ohh-la-la with this character. For the car buffs, Sony's preview also showed off Bond's new Aston Martin DBS.
According to the report, Sony Pictures Entertainment vice chairman Jeff Blake was very excited by what he saw.
Casino Royale comes to theatres on November 17th.
