I have to admit that this has been a big week for the Howard family. Yesterday we were given two trailers -- Spider-Man 3 and Lady in the Water -- both featuring daughter Bryce Dallas Howard and today we hear that director and father Ron Howard might have found his next calling.
Howard and Grazer for The Changeling
According to Variety, Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment have purchased J. Michael Straczynski's thriller The Changeling with Ron Howard in mind to direct.
As in most cases when Howard's name is mentioned, the project will also be produced by Brian Grazer.
Story, billed as based on actual events, is about a mother who prays for the return of her kidnapped son. When her prayers are answered, however, she begins to suspect the boy who comes back is not her child.
The child doesn't then try to jump in the same bathtub as his mother? Because that would be weird.
Howard, who is still yelling 'cha ching, cha ching' for The Da Vinci Code, has a grip of new projects awaiting his arrival. Some of these are the Iraq war drama Last Man Home, a spec script by Jamie Moss that U bought in March; and Winnie Holzman's The Look of Real, also at U, about women working in the garment industry. Look of Real could possibly unite Howard with his daughter Bryce; who is currently looking to star.
J. Michael Straczynski has been involved with other projects including the television series Babylon 5. For the most part the scribe writes Spider-Man titles under an exclusive deal with Marvel.
Just in case you didn't think Howard's itinerary was full enough, he is also attached to Paramount's The Serpent and the Eagle, about the Spanish conquest of the Aztecs, and The Power of Duff at U, which follows a local news anchor whose newscast prayers begin to be answered.
