Napoleon Dynamite DVD Napoleon Dynamite- Like, the Best Special Edition Ever! DVD
Okay, so it’s definitely too soon for another DVD of Napoleon Dynamite already, but they were clearly holding out on the good extras. If you can get rid of your old DVD and save some money on this one, you’ll want to see all the flippin’ sweet extra features.

Napoleon Dynamite DVD Review

Audition tapes show the actors out of costume nailing their characters impeccably. It’s recent enough that the video quality is good and it’s just a trip to see these early versions of the performances.

“Napoleon Sightings” include appearances on various MTV shows and Saturday Night Live, some in character, some out. It’s nice to have those bits preserved with the film itself. What’s very Napoleon is the Spelling Bee contestant doing a Napoleon line in the middle of his turn. The rights to this must have been a nightmare so props to Fox.

There aren’t really any good new deleted scenes. Nothing will top the kickball scene but Kip’s cyberchat mumblings and the original Pecula dance scene are worth seeing. Too many of the scenes are just extensions or alternate takes, so they’re hardly worth creating a new special edition for. Oddly, the “Play All” choice only plays the first four, so you’ll have to see the rest manually.

New documentaries capture Jared Hess’s Sundance experience in a weird Memento style that goes out of order from the successful screening back to the earliest insecurity. An “On Location” documentary goes really in depth, rare for a film that began with no distribution for the festival circuit. It’s full of raw on the set footage without the boring EPK polish so it’s a pure 40 minute behind the scenes perspective.

Stay tuned for updates.
