For those of you keeping up with the Jack Black comedy Nacho
Libre you may have to keep up just a little bit longer. Though we are unsure on whether there may have been a delay in production (which we doubt), we are assuming that the new date chosen by Paramount makes them feel a bit more comfortable.
Nacho Libre Pushes Release Date
With all of the competition between May and July it looks like Paramount's Nacho Libre will be the first to shift its release date into a more comfortable position.
Nacho Libre's original release date, June 2nd, put the film into direct box office competition with the comedy The Break-Up starring Vince Vaughn and Jennifer Aniston. To put a little bit of salt on the wound, Disney/Pixar's highly anticipated film Cars is set to be released the weekend after on June 9th.
Though it has not been explicitly stated, we are going to assume that the move of Nacho Libre to June 16th was to give the film box office breathing room. As the only major release that weekend, Nacho Libre won't encounter any (big) new releases until Superman Returns on June 30th.
Is pushing the release of Nacho Libre a good thing? Though it does create a bit of negative buzz, there are so many big films coming out during that period that most aren't too worried about Nacho Libre anyway. After all is said and done the move should give the film a little added room to bring in some extra ticket sales; or maybe they just knew it was my birthday that weekend.
We should get two new Nacho Libre Confessionals direct from Jack Black this week.
Nacho Libre will be released to theatres on June 16th, 2006.
