Wolverine finds a history.
For all of you struggling to find a way to keep the X-Men franchise going, here is a bit of news that may grant you some relief. Fox head Tom Rothman recently had a chance to discuss films such as a little guy titled X-Men 3:
The Last Stand and let it known that not only is the Wolverine spin-off confirmed but that it is set to be a prequel.
Wolverine Prequel to X-Men
I guess we should have seen this coming. How could anyone make a spin-off on the Wolverine character without having to draw back on events in the X-Men trilogy? Since both cast and crew of X3 have repeatedly told us that the upcoming installment is the grand finale for the trilogy started by Bryan Singer and finished with Brett Ratner, it was a no-brainer that touching upon events of the trilogy with spin-off films would have been taboo.
IESB recently filmed a video interview with Tom Rothman and it looks like the Fox Head has a weakness for small children; and not in the perverted way. When asked about whether Hugh Jackman's suggestion that Wolverine would be a prequel to the X-Men trilogy Rothman said he couldn't answer that. However, he then decided to go out on the limb and say, YES, Wolverine will be a prequel.
Rothman is also asked why Fox continues to make films in the comicbook genre and his answer comes from both a fan and a big-studio exec. These films not only make lots of money but they are cool to watch.

X-Men 3 comes to theatres on May 26th.
