Kim Raver in The Nine
Fans of 24 may be disappointed to see Kim Raver join the cast of a new drama, The Nine. It may mean the end of Audrey Raines, but this drama could give Raver another long run in television. She plays the survivor of a hostage situation, along with eight others, who flash back to moments from the crises each episode.
Kim Raver Talks The Nine
Raver was not fired from 24, and they were in fact supportive of her new endeavor. “Was I welcome there? Yes, I definitely felt welcome there,” she said. “I know that they are keeping Audrey alive for a specific reason. She’s definitely still talked about in, I don't know if I’m allowed to tell you this, in the opening of the first shows and the way 24 works, it’s kind of an event happens and it kind of makes something else happen. So this came along and I talked with Keifer and I talked with the producers. We just figured we would work it out.”
Raver’s character on The Nine is a DA. Having played professional women often, from government agent Raines to a paramedic on Third Watch, Raver is running the gamut of service jobs. “I think the paramedic is completely different. I think Kathryn is closer to Audrey in the sense of her work and her upbringing. Kim Zambrano from Third Watch was really working class, in a totally different life and different circle. So I would say that Audrey and Kathryn are a little bit, not similar, but as far as their work.”
As The Nine returns to the scene of the group’s traumatic bond, Raver will again be in a situation wearing the same outfit, with the same hair, every day at work. Five seasons from now, they will still be visiting the same day in her past.
“It’s funny because I actually love the fact that on 24 I didn’t change my clothes because I literally would go in and I got to do my work. Having wardrobe changes, that’s several hours worth of work. With that said, the wardrobe, the costume people on The Nine are extraordinary. I mean, I went in two hours today, I was in two hours last week. Even though I’m having the flashbacks, there’s all this other stuff so I have many outfits. And it’s great because it’s creating a whole character. We’re speaking so much through a necklace, through a way she wears her skirt. Is she wearing pants because she feels vulnerable? It’s really a lot of thought is put into the wardrobe so I’m excited that I’m actually doing that.”
The Nine begins October 4 on ABC.
